Lawrenceville, GA Apartments for Rent

As the second-oldest city in Georgia (After Atlanta), Lawrenceville dazzles with its history and Southern hospitality. Located about 30 miles from Downtown Atlanta, Lawrenceville is a terrific choice for commuters looking for a suburban community near the city. But Lawrenceville isn’t just a suburb – this city is home to state-of-the-art medical and educational facilities, thriving businesses, and a multitude of shops and restaurants.

Your new apartment in Lawrenceville will put you close to Gwinnett Medical Center, Georgia Gwinnett College, and the Aurora Theater. Just a few miles up the road, enjoy the beauty of Lake Lanier and a little shopping at The Mall of Georgia. Closer to home, you’ll be able to shop at Sugarloaf Mills and Gwinnett Place Mall.

The 22-acre Lawrenceville City Lake, surrounded by Rhodes Jordan Park, is sure to become a favorite destination after moving to your Lawrenceville apartment. The 162-acre park includes a community center with an aerobics/dance studio, picnic pavilions, an outdoor swimming pool, lighted tennis courts, a 1.9-mile paved trail, a soccer complex, ball fields, a horseshoe court, and a basketball court.

Lawrenceville became a city in 1821. It was named in honor of Captain James Lawrence, who served in the War of 1812 as the commander of the frigate, Chesapeake. Although mortally wounded, he issued the famous battle cry to his men: “Don’t give up the ship!”

Historic Downtown Lawrenceville is a fascinating location that echoes with stories from its long past. In the city’s early years, it was dotted with farms. Those famers used to gather downtown to sell produce, dry goods, and livestock. The livestock kept trampling the courthouse lawn and city leaders struggled with ways to keep the livestock away from the courthouse. A fire destroyed the first courthouse in 1871. The current courthouse was in use until 1988; a small corner balcony was used to summon jurors from the square. Today, downtown ghost tours explore the early history and some of the legends surrounding the city’s early years.

The historic courthouse is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and operates as a museum. Other historic downtown destinations to explore after renting an apartment in Lawrenceville include the Lawrenceville Female Seminary and Gwinnett History Museum, the Fallen Heroes Memorial and Armed Forces Monument, the 1868 Freeman’s Grist Mill, and the Lawrenceville Historic Cemetery.

The Gwinnett County Fair is held in September, and the fairgrounds are located on the south side of Lawrenceville. The fair features exhibits, a carnival, live music and entertainment, competitions, vendors, livestock shows, and more.

And while Atlanta traffic is legendary, you’ll have a way around it when you rent a Lawrenceville apartment – Gwinnett County Transit! This environmentally-friendly express bus whisks commuters between Lawrenceville and the rest of the county to downtown Atlanta. This bus service also includes stops at Discover Mills Mall, Gwinnet Technical College, Gwinnett Place Mall, and the Gwinnett Justice and Administration Center.
