Mount Zion, IL Houses for Rent

The village of Mount Zion, Illinois has a long history, with settlers arriving long before the village incorporated in 1881. Although small and mainly rural, this suburb of Decatur is rapidly growing, thanks to the beauty of the area, good schools, and a small-town feel.

Spitler Woods State Park is over 200 acres and features a nature preserve, hiking trails, and an enclosed heated pavilion. For water sports, Lake Decatur is just north of Mount Zion and is a popular destination for fishing, boating, sailing, jet-skiing, and more. Big Creek Park, two miles north of Mount Zion, features a riding center with horse boarding, trail rides, and show facilities. Mount Zion’s newest community park, Fletcher Park, is set to open this summer and offers trails, pavilions, and playgrounds.

Restaurants in Mount Zion include Hickory River BBQ, Krekels, Pizza Hut, Ruby Tuesday’s and several more. Mount Zion is home to small shops and large retailers such as Wal-Mart, Walgreens, and Dollar General.

The city of Decatur is just eight miles away and features several golf courses, shopping, restaurants, theaters, and art galleries. Springfield is 40 miles away and offers even more big-city conveniences. Mount Zion’s excellent location and charm make it a popular destination for new residents.
