In 1887, the Ball Brothers Glass Company arrived in Muncie and things were never the same. As the leading manufacturer of canning jars, the Ball family quickly became iconic figures. Today, the home of G.A.Ball, Oakhurst, is available for tours and the entire region is known for glass making. The Ball State Cardinals provide college football entertainment, playing in NCAA Division I.

Downtown Muncie is the hub of the city, containing locally-owned shops, businesses, and restaurants. The Minnetrista Farmers Market, an outdoor market, is held seasonally and features locally-grown produce, cheeses, and meats in addition to baked goods, handmade items, and more. Other downtown events include Festival on the Green, which includes an art fair and a concert performed by the Muncie Symphony Orchestra.
