Originally built in 1875 this historic building caught fire in 2016, devastating most of the structure. After almost 2 years of detailed study, planning and design a team has worked to restore the luster of this historic structure. The design of the exterior is a blend of old and new. The original south-facing brick façade with it's decorative cornice has been meticulously restored. New storefront windows replaced the old wood window framing systems, while the character of the existing structure is maintained on the East Main Street side. The west face of the building, which was formerly an interior wall prior to the demolition of the adjacent building, is now structurally reinforced, with additional windows and the wall covered with a modern decorative metal panel. The top of the building is lined with an extension of the decorative cornice. Patio spaces available to the back of the building are for the private use of the occupants. The second floor of the building got a new life as residential apartments. Four units occupy this floor. Two 2-bedroom units and two 1-bedroom units with light-filled rooms and modern conveniences make terrific homes on East Main Street. Large portions of the load bearing walls that separated the three original apartments of the building were opened up to provide a spacious feel to these apartments. The spaces all feature LVT floors, in-suite laundry facilities, modern kitchens with solid surface counters and stainless steel appliances. The fit and finish of these units is be high quality. But, most of all, these new apartments are reflective of the quality of place that comes in calling North Manchester home.
