When you arrive to search for apartments in Cedar Rapids, head west over the Cedar River about four miles and you’ll discover Cedar Hills. This terrific neighborhood is just outside of downtown, providing a slightly more suburban feel but still in the heart of the city.

Cedar Hills is a mixed-use neighborhood with industrial, commercial, and residential sections. The area along 18th avenue is more industrial, while shops and restaurants can be found along Johnson Avenue. Edgewood Avenue, which forms the eastern border of the neighborhood, offers a variety of restaurants, including the popular Beijing Chinese and Bushwood Sports Bar & Grill. Shopping is available at the Plaza West Shopping Center.

Shady, tree-lined streets and lush lawns define the residential areas of Cedar Hills. It is a beautiful area with three large parks. Morgan Creek County Park and Arboretum is located off the western border of the neighborhood, Stoney Point Road. This beautiful, hilly park covers more than 300 acres and includes a campground, a picnic shelter, and the arboretum and butterfly garden. The park has four miles of hiking trails; two miles in the arboretum and two miles of open prairie trails. The park is popular for hiking, bicycling, and cross-country skiing.

Cherry Hill Park, located on the west side of the neighborhood, is home to the largest water park in Cedar Rapids. The Cherry Hill Aquatic Center offers a speed slide, a water slide, a swimming pool with zero-depth entry, a drop slide, lap lanes, diving boards, a concession stand, and a sand play area. The park is next to the Old Stone Barn and Brick Corncrib Garages, a unique neighborhood landmark. Another neighborhood park, Cherokee Trail Park, is a wooded green space with a paved walking path. Jacolyn Park, located off Jacolyn Drive, has splash pads, a playground, and picnic areas.

Renting an apartment in Cedar Hills will give you easy access to everything downtown Cedar Rapids has to offer. You’ll be near Seminole Valley Park, Ellis Golf Course, Mt. Mercy University, the Czech Village/New Bohemia Main Street District, NewBo City Market, and Coe College.
