Transportation in Cedar Rapids

The Northwest Area neighborhood is located in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. It stretches along the western banks of the Cedar River, from 1st Avenue West to just past Ellis Lane Northwest. The western border of this neighborhood is 13th Street Northwest.

This area sustained some heavy damages during the floods that hit the Midwest in 2008, and it has been experiencing ongoing reconstruction ever since. One of the areas that has been partially revitalized is Time Check Park, located on 5th Street Northwest. In June of 2010, a group from around the country volunteered their time to put new life back into Time Check Park. This project put between $150,000 and $200,000 into park renovations to give it back to the neighborhood in its restored condition.

Riverfront Park is also in this neighborhood, with a large portion of the Ellis Trail running through it. Cedar Rapids has an extensive trail system, along with a 15-year master plan for parks and other areas, so this is part of an expanding project. Ellis Trail follows the western bank of the Cedar River. It is 2.6 miles long and paved for walking, jogging, or biking.

Two schools reside within the Northwest Area boundaries. These are Harrison Elementary School on 11th Street Northwest, and Roosevelt Middle School on 13th Street Northwest.
