Southwest Area is a neighborhood in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The zip code is 52404. The boundaries are 16th Avenue Southwest and the Cedar River to the north, 33rd Avenue Southwest to the south , 12th Street Southwest and Rockford Road Southwest on the west, and the Cedar River on the east. This is a neighborhood of vast contrast; a little bit of everything has found its way here. From quiet tree-lined streets with single-family detached homes to fully commercial streets, this neighborhood has everything.

Most of the children here will attend one of the four schools in the neighborhood — Wilson Elementary School and Wilson Middle School, Grant Elementary School and All Saints School.

Cedar Rapids has a deep and rich heritage and culture. It is evident in the fact that in the Southwest Area, there are a number of cemeteries, among them are The National Muslim Cemetery, Czech National Cemetery, and Bohemian Cemetery, each of which reflect one of Cedar Rapids immigrant roots. Those interested in the history of immigration to the area will enjoy visiting these places.

Southwest Area covers a large area. Several parks are part of this section of town. Riverside Park offers residents plenty of walking trails in addition to the baseball diamond and the children’s playground. The big attraction, however, is the skate park, which offers some extreme action for the dedicated skater. Jones Memorial Park is huge at over 200 acres. It has just about anything anyone could want — a swimming pool, a disc golf course, tennis and basketball courts, a horseshoe pit, a playground, picnic areas and grill, and soccer and baseball fields. Hayes Park is a small park that includes a playground and a baseball field. Jones Park Golf Course is an 18-hole public golf course owned by the city of Cedar Rapids.
