New Visions Neighborhood
New Visions is a neighborhood in Des Moines, Iowa. The borders of the neighborhood are University Avenue to the north, Keosauqua Way to the west, I-235 to the south and 5th Avenue to the east. This is an older neighborhood. Many of the homes are between 80 and 100 years old and are in the bungalow style. The homes are on the smaller side, and most only have one bathroom. The prices are still affordable in this neighborhood. It is a good neighborhood for first-time buyers.
Mercy Medical Center is adjacent to the New Visions neighborhood. It is one of the largest employers in the entire state of Iowa and it has also been in operation longer than any other hospital in the state. It is a Catholic hospital and a not-for-profit business. Mercy is a full-service medical center that offers everything from women’s services, birthing, and care for children and newborns, to a state of the art cancer center. There are in-patient and out-patient services, as well as emergency room care, and trauma, orthopedic, and cardiac services.
A Starbucks Coffee Shop is located on 6th Avenue in New Visions, and there is a McDonald’s on the corner of University Avenue and 6th Avenue. Also, a Family Dollar Store can be found on University Avenue. There is a local grocery store on University Avenue, but the closest chain store is on Martin Luther King, Jr. Parkway.
Cooper Park offers a lot of open spaces for the residents of the New Visions neighborhood. It also has paths to enjoy, basketball courts, and a tennis court. This is a scenic park, with plenty of appeal for residents and visitors to the area.
