Belknap Neighborhood

An historic neighborhood that lies just a few miles from downtown Louisville, Belknap is known locally as the heart of The Highlands. Towering shady trees and plentiful nineteenth and early-twentieth century architecture bring an air of charm to this bustling residential neighborhood. According to the 2010 U.S. Census, this area is home to about 4,730 people.

A neighborhood that warmly facilitates pedestrians, Belknap is a breeze to navigate on foot. Well kept sidewalks and ample crosswalks make walking around Belknap both pleasurable and safe. A variety of small specialty shops and eclectic restaurants bring in visitors by vehicle, but most opt to leave their cars behind at one of Belknap’s many pubic parking lots and explore Belknap under their own steam.

Hungry visitors and locals alike can satisfy hunger pangs at some of Belknap’s most notable eateries. Patrons can enjoy Mahi-Mahi tacos at Seviche Latin Restaurant, a cooked-to-order strip steak at Buckhead Mountain Grill, or fresh sushi at Sapporo Japanese Steakhouse.

Those looking to get out for a relaxed nature stroll can head over to nearby Cherokee Park on Cochran Hill Road, where they’ll find bike paths, picnic pavilions, sledding hills, and jogging trails.

Historic Roman Catholic college Bellarmine University sits just minutes away, as do businesses like Heine Brothers Coffee, The European Antique Market, Horton Fruit Co., Tuesday Morning, and PNC Bank.

Those looking to travel will find Louisville International Airport with just a short ten-minute drive down Interstate 264. Local travel is made easy by the Transit Authority of River City (TROC), which provides bus stops for public transportation throughout Belknap and Louisville.
