Bellewood Neighborhood

Northeast of downtown Louisville is the Bellewood subdivision, which is located in the 40207 zip code. The streets are laid out in a rectangular grid. Its boundaries are Napanee Road on the north, St. Matthews Avenue on the east, a line between Elmwood and Gilman Avenues on the south and Chenoweth Lane on the west.

Homes were built in the late 1940s and early 1950s and styles include ranch and Cap Cods, with prices ranging from $162,000 to $485,000. Framed in trees and lush landscaping, the homes are set back from the streets with large front lawns and driveways. Sidewalks are found on some of the streets, especially the main streets such as Chenoweth, making it a good place to walk and ride bikes.

Contained within the Jefferson County School District, Bellewood children attend Chenoweth and Northaven Elementary Schools, Westport Traditional Middle School, Waggener Traditional High School and a number of parochial schools. Bellarmine and Sullivan Universities and the University of Louisville are a few minutes away.

There are no parks within the Bellewood subdivision; however, parks just a few minutes away include Cherokee Park to the west and Waterfront Park along the Ohio River. Cherokee Park is approximately eight miles from Bellewood, located next to I-64. It’s a great place to walk, run and ride bikes. Seneca Golf Course is just south of Cherokee Park.

Major thoroughfares near Bellewood include Brownsboro Road/U.S. 42 just a few blocks north, U.S. 60/Shelbyville Road/Franklin Avenue to the south and interstates I-71 to the north and I-264 to the east.

Shopping, restaurants and services surround Bellewood, concentrating on Brownsboro Road, Shelbyville Road/Franklin Avenue and Chenoweth. The nearest grocery store is Paul’s Fruit Markets at 3922 Chenoweth Square. The Mall St. Matthews at 5000 Shelbyville Road offers more than 30 retailers.
