Thornhill Neighborhood

Thornhill is a small city just over nine miles northeast of downtown Louisville, Kentucky. This community is situated east of U.S. Highway 42 and Lime Kiln Lane, southwest of Seminary Drive, and north of Brownsboro Road. Thornhill is in the 40222 zip code area, within Jefferson County. Area communities include Glenview Manor and Old Brownsboro Place.

The Thornhill community consists primarily of single-family homes along Thornhill Road, Branning Road, and Chadford Way. As of 2000, the population of this city was just 175. A variety of commercial offerings can be found along nearby Lime Kiln Lane and Brownsboro Road.

Schools within walking distance of Thornhill include Ballard High School and Kammerer Middle School on Wesboro Road and Wilder Elementary School on Herr Lane.

More affluent residents of the Thornhill community may belong to the nearby Standard Country Club. Situated less than two miles east of Thornhill on Standard Club Lane, this private country club has a relaxed atmosphere and caters to families. In addition to a beautiful 18-hole golf course, the club offers swimming pools, tennis courts, fitness facilities, a clubhouse with dining options, and youth clubs and activities to keep the young members busy, while the parents perfect their golf game, or volley on the tennis courts.

One of Kentucky’s 52 state parks is situated less than five miles east of the Thornhill community and offers additional opportunities for outdoor recreation. E.P. Tom Sawyer State park offers a long list of amenities, from an activities center with sports and recreation programs, to a BMX track, to tennis courts and trails. From Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day, the park’s Olympic-sized swimming pool is a popular destination for area families looking to cool off at a low cost.
