West Buechel is a small city roughly eight miles southeast of downtown Louisville, Kentucky. This community is bounded by Newburg Road and Adele Avenue on the west and Bardstown Road/U.S. Highway 31E/U.S. Highway 150 on the east. It extends to Bashford Manor Lane and Glenworth Avenue on the north and the railroad tracks on the south. West Buechel is situated in the 40218 zip code area, within Jefferson County. Neighboring communities include Bashford Manor, Buechel, and Watterson Park.

A few miles directly west of the community is a larger park that borders the Bowman Airfield. Seneca Park is one of the top 70 most visited city parks in the nation, and offers a variety of amenities including pedestrian and equestrian trails, sports facilities, and an 18-hole golf course.
For more affluent residents who prefer a private golfing experience, the Big Spring Country Club is located on the other side of Bowman Field and two additional country clubs are situated within five miles southeast of West Buechel – Woodhaven Country Club and Wildwood Country Club.
