Whipps Millgate Neighborhood

Whipps Millgate is a subdivision located northeast of downtown Louisville in the zip code 40223. Whipps Millgate was dissolved in 2001 and annexed by the neighboring City of Lyndon but is still considered to be a neighborhood of Louisville as well as of Lyndon.

The western boundary is an imaginary line between Whipps Millgate’s Wickham Way and Brentmoor Lane in Moorland; the northern boundary is up against greenspace where Goose Creek cuts through the area; the eastern boundary is another imaginary line between Keeneland Boulevard in Keeneland and Whipp Millgate’s Dogoon Drive; and the south border is Whipps Mill Road.

The rectangular shape is comprised of a grid of streets with a few cul-de-sacs. Its area is just 0.1 square miles. The majority of the homes are red brick or frame ranch-style houses built in the late 1950s; however, newer homes have been added throughout later decades.

Neighborhood amenities include driveways, garages, grassy lawns, mature trees, sidewalks and fenced backyards, patios, decks and a few swimming pools. Home prices range from $112,000-$158,000.

Located in the Jefferson County Public School district, schools include Bowen Elementary, Westport Traditional Mid & Fine Arts Academy and Waggener Traditional High. For recreation, residents visit many nearby parks including E.P. “Tom” Sawyer State Park to the east, Hounz Lane County Park to the northeast and Robison Park in Lyndon.

Main thoroughfares include North Hurstbourne Parkway, LaGrange Road and Westport Road. I-265 is easily accessible by the on/off ramp at Westport Road. Shopping and dining may be found on these streets including a Kroger grocery store at 9501 Westport Road. One Corporate Center, 9931 Hurstbourne Parkway, is an office complex with restaurants and hotels. Central State Hospital is located at 10510 Lagrange Road.
