Worthington Hills Neighborhood
Roughly 25 minutes east of downtown Louisville, Kentucky, is the neighborhood of Worthington Hills. This community is bounded by State Highway 1447 on the south and extends to include Pacelli Place on the west, Halifax Drive on the north, and Northumberland Drive on the east. Worthington Hills is in the 40245 zip code area, within Jefferson County. Neighboring communities include Lake Louisvilla, Fincastle, Ballardsville, and Coldstream.
The neighborhood consists primarily of single-family homes on fairly large, shaded lots. As of July 2009 just over 1,750 residents called Worthington Hills home. This community can be considered rather affluent by Kentucky standards; in 2009 the average household income here was $63,350, well above the state median of $40,072.
One of the most significant attractions near Worthington Hills is E.P. Tom Sawyer State Park, situated about two miles southwest on the other side of I-265. One of 52 state parks in Kentucky, Tom Sawyer offers a variety of amenities, including a public golf course. Other features include tennis courts, one-mile fitness trail, swimming pool, BMX track and recreation programs. There is also an activities center on park grounds that features a gymnasium, which seats 600 and hosts a variety of sporting events, leagues and clinics.
Immediately south of the state park, still within a few miles of Worthington Hills, is the Central State Hospital. This convenient health care option is also a significant area employer.
For the more affluent residents of Worthington Hills that prefer a private golf club experience, the Standard Country Club is within five miles southwest of the neighborhood.
