Highlands/Perkins Neighborhood

Highland Perkins is a large neighborhood that lies in zip code 70820 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The neighborhood is a mix of different businesses, residential property, attractions, academic institutions, and more. The boundaries of the area are River Road to the west and south, Interstate 10 to the north, and Gardere Lane and Staring Lane to the east.

The neighborhood includes the entire campus of Louisiana State University and to the campus of Southern University and Agricultural and Mechanical College that was established in 1880. Baton Rouge Community College is also located in this general area. There are plenty of amenities that students can enjoy on campus, as well.

The fact that there are so many colleges and universities in the area makes it a ripe environment for many apartments, and there are lots of apartments throughout the entire neighborhood, including some that are very close to the college campuses. This presents an ideal living situation for students, visiting faculty members and others who work at these academic institutions because they don’t have to travel far for classes or work.

There is plenty of shopping in the area at places such as the University Shopping District, Coles Plaza Shopping Center, Burbank Terrace Shopping Center, Highland Village Shopping Center, Village Square Shopping Center, and Acadian Village Shopping Center, just to name a few. There are also restaurants and plenty of attractions.

For lovers of adventure and a thrill a minute, the Blue Bayou Dixie Landin’ is a great place to find them. Located on 80 acres at Interstate 10 and Highland Road, this family-oriented attraction is where Dixie Landin’ is the amusement park with 26 different rides, ten games and many other attractions, and Blue Bayou is the water park with 20 different water attractions.
