South Baton Rouge Neighborhood

The South Baton Rouge neighborhood is located within Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The area is roughly triangular in shape and is bordered on the northeastern side by Interstate 10. The southern border is just north of Manchac Road, and to the northwest is Gardere Lane and Staring Lane. The area is a mixture of residential homes, town houses, and apartments. There are also commercial properties and businesses.

Mayfair Park and its large, open green spaces are located within the South Baton Rouge neighborhood. Mayfair Park offers a recreation center, a playground, a baseball field, and a tennis court. Highland Road Park is in the neighborhood and also features a recreation center complete with an indoor gymnasium and side rooms available to rent. There is a playground, baseball fields, an archery range, Disc Golf, tennis courts, and a rugby field. The Highland Road Observatory is located on the left side of the park and features a 20-inch reflecting telescope and an all-accessible 16 inch telescope. Also in the vicinity is Forest Park, and its amenities include a dog park, playground, a recreation center, tennis courts, soccer fields, baseball diamonds, and picnic facilities.

Shopping centers are plentiful in the neighborhood. The Mall of Louisiana offers shoppers many choices. They have a Sears, Macy’s, J.C. Penney’s, Dillard’s, Abercrombie and Fitch, Ann Taylor, American Eagle, and Journey’s. There are several restaurants in the area, as well, covering several different cuisines. There is an Italian restaurant, a brew house, a cupcake shop, a cheesecake bistro, and a theater. Also in the neighborhood is the Bluebonnet Shopping Center, the Essen Village Shopping Center, and the Twin Town Shopping Center.
