Covington, LA Condos for Rent

Sheltered by ancient oaks and wrapped around a historic downtown, Covington is everything you’d expect to find in a Southern town and then some. Located directly across the landmark Lake Pontchartrain Causeway (the longest continuous bridge in the world) from New Orleans, Covington’s fantastic location places you close to the attractions of Louisiana’s favorite city but offers a quieter place to call home.

Settled around 1800, Covington is likely named for General Leonard Covington, a hero of the War of 1812 and member of the US House of Representatives. The area began to grow when the Illinois Central Railroad was built; that old railroad line is now the Tammany Trace, a 31-mile, paved rail trail used for bicycling, jogging, and walking. There’s also an equestrian trail that runs parallel to the Tammany Trace.

Once you’ve found an apartment to rent in Covington, be sure to visit the area museums – they provide a fascinating glimpse into Covington’s long history. The Covington Trailhead Museum includes interactive kiosks, photos, and more. To walk into history, be sure to visit HJ Smith’s Son General Store and Museum, which first opened in 1876.

Downtown Covington houses a variety of restaurants, shops, and businesses in historic buildings. While the 40-mile trip to nearby New Orleans provides endless entertainment, live music, and terrific dining opportunities, Covington has some terrific entertainment and events, as well. Tour the Covington Brewhouse Microbrewery or dine out at the stunning Annadele’s Plantation, a plantation home dating back to 1819.
