Audubon Neighborhood

Audubon is a subsection of the Uptown-Carrolton neighborhood located on the East Bank in New Orleans. Sharing its namesake with Audubon Park, this area has high-end homes, eclectic architectural style and plenty of hidden gems for shopping and eating. Houses become more modest and affordable the farther their location from St. Charles Avenue, but this area is extremely popular, safe and well-regarded within the New Orleans community.

Audubon’s northern boundary is N Claiborne Avenue, which connects to its western border, Lowerline Street. Lowerline curves to meet Broadway, which intersects with Tchoupitoulas Street, part its southern border. Tchoupitoulas intersects with Webster Street and continues the southern boundary of Audubon along Magazine Avenue, another major street in New Orleans full of shops and restaurants. Jefferson Avenue to the east completes the neighborhood’s boundaries.

Audubon Park is the largest park in New Orleans with several sports fields, barbecue pits, pavilions, and an almost two-mile paved track perfect for running, walking, skating, and biking. The Audubon Zoo is located across from Audubon Park. As part of the Audubon Nature Institute, New Orleans’s only zoo is home to indigenous and exotic animals. It features a petting zoo within its walls so that children can interact with friendly animals.

Two of the most well-known institutes of higher education in the area, Tulane University and Loyola University, are situated in the northern section of Audubon. Separated only by a chain link fence and a two-lane street, these universities make up most of the heart of the Audubon area. Several shops and restaurants that cater to students surround the campuses.
