Garden District Neighborhood

The Garden District is one of the historical districts on the Crescent City’s East Bank. Bordered by the Lower Garden District and the heart of the Uptown area, this neighborhood is close to major public transportation routes including the St. Charles Streetcar. Central to some of the most popular areas in New Orleans and near two major Mardi Gras parade routes, it is an ideal spot for residents and visitors looking for a true New Orleans experience.

The Garden District is one of several historic districts in New Orleans located in the 70130 zip code. It is bounded by the famous St. Charles Avenue to the north with First Street acting as its eastern-most street. To the west, Toleando Street acts as the boundary intersecting with the popular Magazine Street, completing the neighborhood’s southern boundary.

There are several cozy bed and breakfast destinations located off of Magazine and Prytania Streets in the Garden District. Sully Mansion Bed and Breakfast is located just a block from the St. Charles streetcar route and close to local coffee shops and restaurants. For those seeking more traditional accommodations, there is a Best Western and a Hampton Inn just off of St. Charles Avenue, though rates rise during peak times such as Mardi Gras.

There are a number of commercial establishments located on Magazine Street between Louisiana Avenue and Washington Avenue. Cafe Rani, Byblos and Coquette are just a few of the highly rated restaurants in the area. They are also close to Parasol’s, a bar and music venue, as well as the New Orleans Fire Museum. The Bulldog is also a bar worth noting, having a number of local and imported beers on tap. It is also dog-friendly, especially for bulldogs.
