Maine Apartments for Rent

Spectacular lighthouses perched on rugged rocks overlooking the wild, untamed ocean, dazzling cities filled with amazing restaurants, shops, and historic sites, a vast wilderness dominated by rolling mountains and dense green forests, and outdoor adventures from hiking, camping, fishing, and boating to snow-skiing, ice fishing, snowmobiling, and ice skating. All of this in one amazing state makes Maine an ideal place for your next apartment.

Maine was settled by the French in 1604, but those settlers quickly moved their colony to present-day Quebec. Beginning in 1607, English settlers tried their hand at establishing colonies in Maine. And while most of the settlements were short-lived due to weather conditions and conflicts with natives, Maine remained part of Massachusetts, even though it was contentiously fought over during the American Revolution and the War of 1812. After seceding from Massachusetts, Maine was admitted as the 23rd state in 1820.

Today, Maine is still somewhat sparsely populated. Nearly 90 percent of the state is forested – 17 million acres — and the state boasts 230 miles of coastline. Acadia National Park was established in 1919 as Lafayette National Park and is the oldest National Park east of the Mississippi River. It covers 47,000 acres and consists of several islands.

But don’t let the wild landscape fool you – Maine contains beautiful, modern cities with great shopping, museums, and amazing restaurants. If you want a lively, urban setting, Portland is Maine’s largest city with a population of 230,000. This city may have nearly one quarter of Maine’s total population, but it still delivers on beauty and charm, with historic architecture, cobblestone streets, and a breath-taking waterfront.

And, while not as large as Portland, an apartment in Bangor will give you the best Maine has to offer with gorgeous architecture, museums, the Bangor Symphony Orchestra (the oldest orchestra in the US), the Maine Discovery Museum, the University of Maine Museum of Art, and several historic sites. Lewiston, Maine’s second-largest city, offers charming neighborhoods, major businesses, and a beautiful downtown. It is home to several festivals, including the Lewiston Auburn Film Festival, the Great Falls Balloon Festival, and Festival FrancoFun.
