On the north end of Pine Bluff and roughly 30 miles south of Little Rock, Pine Bluff Arsenal is one of the country’s nine Army facilities that stores chemical weapons. The PBA employs roughly 20 military personnel and over 5,800 civilians. When the PBA was established in 1941, it manufactured incendiary grenades and bombs. It expanded during WWII to include a manufacturing facility for chemical warfare. The facility is located on 13,493 acres and contains 665 buildings.
