The US Navy has two amphibious training bases. One of those bases is the Naval Amphibious Base Coronado, located on the San Diego Bay. NAB Coronado was established in 1944 and is situated on the Silver Strand, a narrow isthmus that stretches seven miles between the San Diego Bay and the Pacific Ocean. NAB Coronado provides training and support for naval amphibious units on the West coast. The base covers about 1,000 acres and includes training beaches and a marina. Glorietta Bay Park borders the base and includes a small beach, a boat launch, and picnic areas.
Apartments near NAB Coronado are plentiful. Look in Coronado, located just north of the base. Coronado is an affluent community and popular resort area. It is directly across the bay from downtown San Diego. Coronado is home to several hotels and three major resorts, including the popular and historic Hotel Del Coronado. With a commute of less than six miles, downtown San Diego is also a great option. Look in the city’s southern neighborhoods, such as Sigsbee Row, Gaslamp Quarter, East Village, Logan Heights, Sherman Heights, and Grant Hill.
