Situated halfway between Hopkinsville, Kentucky and Clarksville, Tennessee, Fort Campbell is located on the Kentucky-Tennessee border near the town of Oak Grove. Fort Campbell is home to the world’s only Air Assault Division, the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault). The fort, which is named for Union Army Brigadier General William Campbell, was built in 1941.
The 101st Airborne Division is one of the most decorated units in the Army with a history that dates back to 1918. The “Screaming Eagles” played a crucial role in WWII with D-Day landings in Normandy, France. The division also engaged in the Vietnam War, the War in Southwest Asia, Afghanistan, and Iraq.

The city, which was founded in 1785, is the state’s oldest city and features a historic downtown district. A large portion of Fort Campbell is located in the state of Tennessee, even though its address is officially listed as Kentucky.
