Cannon Air Force Base was established in 1942 and is located just outside of Clovis, New Mexico. It is home to the 27th Special Operations Wing (27 SOW), which is assigned to the Air Force Special Operations Command.
Clovis is a small, rural community named for stone-age spear points found there in 1929. It is the county seat of Curry County and is situated near the Texas border, roughly three hours southeast of Santa Fe and about two hours southwest of Amarillo, Texas. Primarily agricultural, Clovis is populated by cattle ranches and farms. Peanut and cotton farming is popular in the area and several processing plants are located nearby.
