Cooper Neighborhood
Cooper is a neighborhood in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The neighborhood is south of 27th Street, east of 38th Avenue, north of 34th Street, and west of the Mississippi River. It is part of the 55406 zip code. Most of the homes in the area have quite a bit of history to them. This is because the large majority of all homes here were built prior to 1940. Renovations have been made to the majority of them over the years, but the distinct character still remains. Most of these homes are also lived in by the actual owner with only a limited number of rental properties available in the area.
Cooper is also known for being a highly educated neighborhood, with more than half of the age appropriate residents having at least a Bachelor’s Degree and several having even better. Most residents are aged between 30-50 years of age and about half are married.
Recreation is a major part of the area with numerous parks providing many different services focused at youth and adult activities. One of the more popular is Mississippi Park. This park is larger, but lacks a lot of the amenities of other area parks. The main attraction to this park is the river frontage. Many come here to simply enjoy nature, go for a walk, or even try their luck at fishing.
Another popular destination for recreation is the Town and Country Club off Mississippi River Boulevard on the eastern side of the Mississippi River. This country club is moderately sized, but well maintained, providing a quality game of golf on the golf course. The club also has a few tennis courts that get regular use throughout the year by tennis trainers and for general play. There is also a fitness center.
