Lowry Hill Neighborhood

The Lowry Hill neighborhood in western Minneapolis is a community that is rich in history and culture. Named after one of the area’s original developers and residents, Thomas Lowry, the neighborhood is home to both the Minneapolis Sculpture Center and the adjoining Walker Art Center. From their backyards, residents of Lowry Hill can enjoy views of an iconic giant red cherry balancing on an over-sized silver spoon.

Just west of downtown Minneapolis, Lowry Hill extends to Interstate 394 on the north and 22nd Street on the south. Lake of the Isles Parkway, Morgan Avenue, and Logan Avenue create the community’s western boundary. Hennepin Avenue/I-94 bounds the neighborhood on the east. The ZIP code for this Hennepin County neighborhood is 55403.

Thomas Lowry Park, situated at Mount Curve and Douglas Avenues, is another tribute to one of the area’s forefathers and offers a serene retreat in the middle of the big city. However, this isn’t the only option for outdoor recreation in Lowry Park. The community is virtually surrounded by green space. Parks within walking distance of the neighborhood include Bryn Mawr Meadows, The Parade, Loring Park, and Kenwood Park.

Thanks to the cultural offerings within the neighborhood bounds, Lowry Hill is an ideal neighborhood for the artsy, intellectual crowd. Directly to the north are the Dunwoody College of Technology and the Minneapolis Community and Technical College. The Minneapolis Convention Center is located within a mile or so to the east, along 2nd Avenue South.

All these parkland, culture, and educational options are within walking distance, and the downtown area is within a few minutes by car. Add that to the fact that Lowry Hill is sandwiched between two major area roadways, I-394 and I-94, and residents have a recipe for prime Minneapolis real estate.
