Morris Park Neighborhood

Named for the daughter of one of the area’s first settlers, Morris Park is a small neighborhood in the southeastern-most part of Minneapolis, Minnesota. The neighborhood extends to 54th Street on the north, 34th Avenue on the west and 46th Avenue on the east. On the south, it extends to the Twin Cities Air Force Reserve Base, which is bordered by the Minneapolis – Saint Paul International Airport and Fort Snelling. The zip code for Morris Park is 55417, and it belongs to Hennepin County.

This largely residential community consists mostly of single-family homes built between 1920 and 1960. Morris Park is part of the Nokomis East Neighborhood Association, along with the Wenonah, Minnehaha, and Keewaydin neighborhoods.

A small community park – Morris Park – can be found within neighborhood bounds, and ample parkland surrounds the neighborhood. Within a few minutes to the northwest are Lake Nokomis, Lake Hiawatha and their surrounding parkland. Lake Hiawatha also features the 18-hole Hiawatha Golf Course. Immediately to the east are the river and Minnehaha Park. Further southeast is Snelling Lake and Fort Snelling State Park.

Another significant feature of the Morris Park neighborhood is its close proximity to the Minneapolis VA Medical Center which borders the community on the east. The Morris Park Elementary School can be found on East 56th Street near the community park and within the neighborhood bounds.

There are plenty of shopping, dining and entertainment options within walking distance or a short drive of Morris Park. The trendy Uptown neighborhood is roughly 15 minutes away by car, and downtown Minneapolis isn’t much farther away than that. Both offer tons of unique shops, eateries and fun ways to entertain yourself.
