Powderhorn Park Neighborhood

Powderhorn Park is a neighborhood in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The neighborhood is part of the 55407 zip code and located to the south County Road 3, north of 38th Street, east of Chicago Avenue, and west of Cedar Avenue. Homes in the area are mostly older, with the large majority of them built prior to 1940. Homes are built in a wide variety of styles, with the large majority being detached and the owner of the home residing there. There are, however, some multiple family homes, as well as rental properties in Powderhorn Park.

One of the most obvious attractions to the Powderhorn Park area is Powderhorn Lake Park, which is home to Powderhorn Lake. This popular park provides a great deal of recreation for the neighborhood, with numerous visitors each and every day. The park itself is not all that large, but it definitely packs amenities into the small space. There are 6 tennis courts, 4 baseball fields, picnic areas, and many trails. It is common to find walkers, runners, skaters, and cyclists taking advantage of the miles of pavement for exercise. For boaters, Powderhorn Lake provides excellent recreational opportunities and docks are heavily used by fishermen. There is also a skating rink to round out the offerings.

The area is also located close to several major medical centers, including Phillips Eye Institute and Abbott Northwestern Hospital. These medical centers provide most of the major medical care for the general area and with a location close to Interstate 35W, Abbott is a major emergency medical center. There is also a Children’s Hospital that is part of the Abbott Hospital complex. This hospital is known for providing incredible care for children and as such, draws in visitors from throughout the state for care. The hospitals also employ many people from surrounding neighborhoods.
