Winnetka Hills Neighborhood
The neighborhood of Winnetka Hills is one of 14 communities that make up the city of Crystal – a suburb of Minneapolis. Winnetka Hills has a zip code of 55427 and is located within Hennepin County. This small community is located in Crystal’s southwest corner.
The neighborhood bounds aren’t very conspicuous, but the community extends past 35th Avenue North to the north and 30th Avenue North to the south. On the west, it extends past Wisconsin Avenue North to the north and Aquila Avenue North to the south. Winnetka Avenue and Pennsylvania Avenue North constitute the community’s compartmentalized eastern border. A small section of the neighborhood extends to the north along Winnetka Avenue. This section consists mostly of cemetery land, including Beth-El Cemetery and Herzl Cemetery. Winnetka Hills is bordered by the neighborhood of Valley Place to the east.
Just outside the neighborhood’s western boundary, in the city of New Hope, is Hidden Valley Park (32nd and Boone). This area park offers an asphalt hockey rink, pathways, play equipment, two basketball courts, three tennis courts, and soccer fields. During the long, Minnesota winters, Winnetka Hills residents head to Hidden Valley Park to take advantage of sliding hills and outdoor lighted skating rinks. During the warmer months, this park is a popular picnic area, offering enclosed picnic shelters and grills.
A few minutes west of Winnetka Hills is Medicine Lake, a scenic destination for residents looking to enjoy Nature’s bounty. It is easily the largest lake in the area and the second largest lake in the Twin Cities.
Schools in the area include Sonnesyn Elementary School at 3421 Boone Avenue North, and Robbinsdale Spanish Immersion School at 8808 Medicine Lake Road.
When Winnetka Hills’ residents want to get out and see more of the Twin Cities, they don’t have to travel far for easy access. North 36th Avenue leads directly to Beltway 100, which connects residents to more of what the Minneapolis/St. Paul area has to offer.
