West Seventh Neighborhood

West Seventh is a neighborhood in Saint Paul that borders the river and its surrounding parkland. Significant area roadways include Shepard Road, Fort Road/7th Street West/State Highway 5, St. Claire Avenue and Smith Avenue South. Interstate 35E also runs past the neighborhood, connecting it to the rest of the Twin Cities area. West Seventh is in the 55102 zip code area, within Ramsey County.

West Seventh residents enjoy close proximity to a supermarket and several area eateries. Of course, the nearby interstate means that there is no shortage of places to shop and dine within a short drive of the neighborhood.

St. Clair Playground, Palace Park, and the Linwood Community Recreation Center all provide recreational opportunities within a few minutes of West Seventh, but more ample parkland can be found to the south, along the river. There you’ll find Pickerel Lake and the Lilydale/Harriet Island Regional Park.

Within a few miles to the north of West Seventh is what could be considered the cultural center of the city. Here, along the riverbed, you’ll find the Minnesota History Center, the Xcel Energy Center, the Science Museum of Minnesota, the Ordway Center for the Performing Arts and the Minnesota Children’s Museum, among a long list of other cultural and educational attractions. Of course, all these attractions have spurred a variety of eateries to open their doors in the area as well.

West Seventh residents also benefit from close proximity to a number of major medical facilities. United Hospital, Healtheast St. Joseph’s Hospital, Healtheast Care – Bethesda Hospital, and Gillette Children’s Specialty Healthcare are all situated to the north, intermixed with the city’s cultural offerings.

Schools abound in the West Seventh area, including MacDonald Montessori School (on Western Avenue South), Four Seasons Elementary, and Bridge View Elementary (both on Colborne Street).
