The Old Shoe Factory District is at the epicenter of downtown Columbia. Surrounded by three colleges, the district is the center of college life in the city. Shopping, food, and fun are all available downtown in this city of more than 100,000. For an escape from the city, several parks are located within a short drive.

Columbia College campus sits in the middle of the Old Shoe Factory District, and was founded in 1851. Not more than two miles south on College Avenue, is the University of Missouri campus which enrolls more than 30,000 students. The University of Missouri is home to the nationally ranked Tiger athletic teams, and hosts concerts and theatrical performances. Further north is Stephens College, a women’s college that was established more than 175 years ago.

Downtown Columbia is a pedestrian friendly area with everything you need out of a night on the town. Window shop the areas many stores, or grab some food at one of the many restaurants, and do not forget to try the famous Missouri BBQ. For entertainment, there are comedy clubs, movie theaters, or the Columbia nightlife.

Lush green landscapes are under five minutes from this neighborhood. Stephens Park, just minutes away on East Broadway, covers 116 acres, including more than 2 miles of trails, playgrounds, waterfalls, a swimming beach, and for those that do not want to be too far away, free Wifi Internet access. Golfers can drive just a bit further east to take on the 18-hole golf course at Columbia Country Club.

At the Old Shoe District city life is right outside the door and an escape to luscious green landscapes only a bit further.
