As one of the fifteen counties in the Kansas City metro area, Jackson County is the second largest. And while Kansas City is the center of county government, the county seat is Independence – the fourth largest city in Missouri. Truman National Historic Site, located in Independence. The Jackson County Courthouse, built in 1836, is another landmark.
