Homes in the area were mostly built between 1950-1980 with a large boom in the 1970s. Many of the residents in Bannister Acres are married and more than a third of the households have at least one child residing in the residence. Bannister Acres is known for being heavily residential with many open fields and undeveloped forests. The area is peaceful, but many of the major destinations require a bit of driving. For shopping, many residents head to Hillcrest Road to the north. Along this road, there are several major national retailers including The Home Depot, Wal-Mart, and K-Mart. There are also a number of smaller retail establishments and restaurants in the area that provide day to day shopping needs.
Longview Lake County Park, about a mile to the south, is one of the best places for recreation in the area. This park is home to Longview Lake, which is a large lake in the area. The park has a marina, golf course, and numerous picnic areas. Many recreational boaters as well as anglers take to the lake on a daily basis for a day of adventure and fun. There are also docks for fishing.
