Colonial Square Neighborhood

The Colonial Square neighborhood of North Kansas City is bound by two interstates, I-29 and I-35, making it convenient to all the attractions and amenities of the area. These include Oceans of Fun and Worlds of Fun to the east, the riverboat casinos along the Missouri River to the south, and the tremendous recreation sites at Smithville Lake to the north.

Homes in Colonial Square are smaller, older homes. They are well maintained, with lots of room between homes, in an area with plenty of open spaces. The neighborhood is very convenient for fans of Royals Baseball and Chiefs Football.

Parks surround the neighborhood. Just to the south lies Riverview Park and Chouteau Park. Riverfront Park is on the south side of the Missouri River and offers the only developed area along the river, only minutes from Colonial Square.

Numerous golf courses are in the area, including Claycrest at William Jewell College, Excelsior Springs, Hodge Park, and Paradise Point.

Smithville Lake to the north is the largest and most diverse area for outdoor recreation, including boating, fishing, golf, camping, hunting, trapshooting, hiking, and much more. There is a large waterfowl preserve here as well.

University of Missouri Extension and Outreach, William Jewell, and Maple Hills Community College are major educational institutions near Colonial Square. The museums in nearby Kearney pay tribute to the best-known character of the area – Jesse James. The Steamboat Arabia at River Market is another popular site for visitors and locals.

A small grocery store and convenience store are in the immediate neighborhood. Metro North and Antioch Shopping Centers are close by. River Market, an exciting outdoor market and major attraction, is just across the river.

The Metro offers transit service to downtown Kansas City, Crown Center, and the casinos along the river.
