Columbus Park Neighborhood

Columbus Park is a neighborhood in Kansas City, Missouri. The neighborhood is part of the 64106 and 64120 zip codes and located east of Burlington Street, north of Independence Avenue, and west of Interstate 29/35. This area is heavy in major roadways, with most major interstates in the area making connections to the south of Columbus Park.

Homes in Columbus Park have quite a bit of history, with the large majority of homes having been built before 1940. These older homes provide a look into the past and bring character to the area. Housing variety here is excellent with many multiple unit dwellings as well as detached homes.

On the north side of Columbus Park is the Richard L Berkley Riverfront Park. This park is somewhat small, but provides excellent riverfront views and trails that are used by walkers, runners, and cyclists. The park is also frequented by pet owners walking their dogs.

Across the water from the Riverfront Park is the Charles B Wheeler Downtown Airport. This airport has been in existence since 1927 and was the city’s first airport. While the airport is no longer used for mass commercial travel, it is still a major transportation hub for charter planes and business travel. The airport is operational 24 hours a day, with about 700 aircraft that transition through the airport daily.

To the south is an area called Hospital Hill. Just as the name suggests, this area, located about a mile south of Columbus Park, is the home of two major hospitals – the Truman Medical Center and Children’s Mercy Hospital. Both hospitals are quite large and provide a great deal of the medical care for residents throughout the surrounding region. Quick access to numerous major freeways make it an obvious destination for emergency medical care. They are also major employers in the area.
