Apartment for Rent in Mount Cleveland
Kansas City at a Glance
Mount Cleveland Neighborhood
The tiny community of Mount Cleveland sits next to Brush Creek, a stream which played a big part in the American Civil War. This was the scene of the Battle of Westport, which effectively ended the Confederate’s advance west of the Mississippi. Brush Creek was the dividing line. Today that battle site is home to Brush Creek Park, the Country Club Plaza, and the Nelson Atkins Museum of Art. The park itself offers hiking and biking trails and a chance to exercise the family pet. Mount Cleveland is southeast of downtown Kansas City.
The community itself is a combination of condos, single-family homes, and duplexes. The northern end along Blue Parkway is commercial with a small shopping mall within walking distance of many homes. Stores include the Blue Parkway Sunfresh grocery, Foot Locker, and a Family Dollar Store. The city’s Bus Rapid Transit line also runs along the Blue Parkway. The residential area offers homes that were built as far back as the 1940s with some newer duplexes and apartment style condos that went up through the 1980s and 1990s. New developments are still being added. Streets are gently curving and tree-lined, and the lots are fairly large. Mount Cleveland has an equal mix of owners and renters.
Nearby schools include Graceland Elementary, George Washington Carver Elementary, and a little farther west the Paseo High School. Kim’s Play-School Childcare is also available. The University of Missouri at Kansas City is roughly a mile west. Churches within walking distance include Good Samaritan Baptist, Parkway Baptist, and Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. A line of fast food restaurants follows the Blue Parkway as well as Texas Toms Restaurant and L C’s Bar-B-Q, famous for Kansas City ribs.
