Oakwood Neighborhood
Oakwood is a neighborhood in Kansas City, Missouri. The neighborhood is located north of Interstate 435 and to the west of US Highway 71. The location makes Oakwood an excellent place for quick access to some of the best attractions and destinations throughout the Kansas City region.
One of the most obvious attributes of Oakwood is the greenery. Throughout the area there are trees pretty much everywhere with a lot of undeveloped light forest. This provides incredible scenery and gives residents to the area a wonderful feeling of peace. The trees also provide great opportunities for wildlife and block out much of the noise from airplanes, helicopters, and of course vehicles.
Due to the lack of traffic on the surrounding roads many residents can be found taking advantage of the situation by using the pavement for other activities. It is common to find residents walking, running, skating and cycling along the several miles of lightly traveled roads. Many children even use the roads for their own activities including basketball.
For a little additional recreation many go to the Oakwood Country Club off of Grandview Road. This popular country club is home to a moderately sized golf course that sees regular use. The course itself is well maintained providing an excellent experience to golfers representing a number of different skill levels. The club also has a decent tennis program with eight courts used for individual training, league play and tournaments. Rounding out the offerings at the club are basketball courts, a fitness center and a swimming pool.
South of Oakwood is 103rd Street. This road provides much of shopping and dining in the immediate area. It is also home to numerous major car dealerships near Womall Road. This area is one of the more popular destinations for those looking to purchase a vehicle.
