Plaza Westport Neighborhood

Plaza Westport is a neighborhood in Kansas City, Mo., located north of 47th Street and west of Main Street. Homes in Plaza Westport are somewhat older but definitely have character. The area has quite a variety in the styles of buildings as well. Multiple-family dwellings and detached buildings are both available, providing opportunity for all income levels and size requirements.

One of the most obvious attractions in the Plaza Westport neighborhood is St. Luke’s Hospital. This large hospital provides much of the major medical care here. It is also a major destination for emergency care. Another hospital is the University of Kansas Hospital on the corner of 39th Avenue and Rainbow Boulevard, less than a mile away. The two hospitals bring a great deal of visitors to town and are major employers in the region. Many of the doctors, nurses, and staff live in the neighborhoods surrounding the hospitals.

If nothing else, Plaza Westport has a lot of variety in the offerings around the neighborhood. Culture is very easy to be found, especially with the University of Missouri – Kansas City located just south of the neighborhood. The university has arts programs that even have public showings. The James C. Olsen Performing Arts Center and Kansas City Repertory Theatre provide excellent theatrical, dance, and musical performances available to the public throughout the year. Also in the area are two museums, the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art and Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art.

For recreation, a popular destination is on the corner of Ward Parkway and Brookside Boulevard. This is where the Plaza Tennis Center is located. Located along the southern border of the neighborhood, the tennis is extremely convenient for residents looking for individual lessons, league play, and tournaments.
