Valentine Neighborhood

Valentine is an older, downtown neighborhood. There are an abundance of apartments, some older and some newer and more modern. Older, single-family homes occupy many of the small crowded lots. This neighborhood is located in the 64111 zip code, and it is part of Jackson County.

Valentine is rectangular in shape, and is located between West 31st Street on the north; West 39th Street on the south; SouthWest Trafficway and Summit Street on the west; and Broadway Street on the east.

Within the neighborhood are two community colleges: Penn Valley and Metropolitan. Also nearby are the Broadway Valentine Shopping Center, the Health Science Center, and the VFW.

The Valentine community is very conveniently located to seven different parks. The Penn Valley Park is the largest of the seven, and is also the closest. On SouthWest Trafficway, residents can also enjoy the Skate Park and several tennis courts.

For residents who wish to stay close to home while attending college, Valentine is the perfect neighborhood. Due south, a short distance, are the University of Missouri-Kansas City and Rockhurst University.

Dog lovers are definitely favored in Valentine. Several of the apartment complexes allow tenants to have dogs, although there are certain breeds that have restrictions on them. There is the Off Leash Dog Park just off of Penn Valley Drive to the north.

The University of Kansas Hospital is located just a few blocks away from Valentine to the west. For those who live on the other side of Valentine, the Truman Medical Center-Hospital is northeast near Highway 71.
