Volker Neighborhood

Situated between the State Line Road on the west, East 31st Street on the north, Summit Street on the east, and West 43rd Street on the south is the historic, downtown neighborhood of Volker. It is part of the 64111 zip code.

Volker is a mix of people, lifestyles, and housing. Most of the homes in this area are built in styles from the 1950s. There are single-family homes and multi-story apartment buildings. Some of the apartments in the area are pet-friendly.

There are two properties in the Volker neighborhood that are listed as historic places. One is “Roselawn,” the home of William Volker and the other is the Loretto Academy. This school was built in 1902 and sits on six and a half acres. It was one of the first schools in Kansas City to allow black students to attend.

The University of Missouri-Kansas City, Rockhurst University, and the Metropolitan Community College are all close to the neighborhood of Volker. They sit to the southeast and northeast of it. This gives college students a distinct advantage, especially if they want to study close to home.

The Volker neighborhood is the home of the Old Westport Shopping Center, making shopping a breeze for residents.

There are a variety of parks all around Volker with Roanoke and Rosedale being the closest ones. Roanoke Park is on the east side of the neighborhood and a portion of it is actually a part of Volker. It is unique in that it has a cave in it. There is a nice playground for children, too.

In case of medical emergencies, the University of Kansas Hospital is on the western border of Volker at West 39th Avenue.
