Clifton Heights Neighborhood

The Clifton Heights, Saint Louis, Missouri neighborhood is located in Southwest Saint Louis and is bordered by Interstate 44, Hampton Avenue and Arsenal Street. The neighborhood has a high percentage of single-family homes in comparison to other areas of Saint Louis. This neighborhood is originally believed to have been started sometime in the mid-1880s, with some areas not included until the mid-1950s. Clifton Heights is considered to be one of the oldest developed areas of Saint Louis.

The Clifton Heights neighborhood is an interesting mix of valleys and hills. The area is also home to Clifton Park where there is a a lake. Clifton Park was a private park until about 1922, when the city bought the land and expanded the park to slightly over four acres.

Clifton Heights is only ten minutes from downtown Saint Louis, providing residents with great access to restaurants, shopping sports and other attractions. Downtown Saint Louis offers something for everyone to enjoy including the Laclede’s Landing Wax Museum, Kiener Plaza & Morton D. May Amphitheater, where visitors can get a great view of the Gateway Arch. There are numerous paths for walking, and the pool and fountain centerpiece of the area creates a lovely focal point in the area.

The Gateway Arch also offers numerous opportunities for recreation, including a Helicopter Tour, the Museum of Westward Expansion and opportunities to enjoy Riverboat cruises, including sightseeing tours, dinner cruises, or entertainment cruises. This neighborhood also offers great access to the Saint Louis Science Center, where visitors can enjoy a planetarium, IMAX theater, and numerous displays that include timely and educational ecology and environmental galleries.
