Glendale Neighborhood

Glendale is a suburb to the southwest of Saint Louis, Missouri. It is a historic city that dates from before the Civil War. It is part of Saint Louis County. The zip code for Glendale is 63122. One of the oldest roads in the county runs right through Glendale. Sappington Road is named for a pioneer, John Sappington, who settled in the area in 1815. The city of Glendale was incorporated in 1916 and is a gorgeous residential area.

Homes in Glendale that are more than 100 years old are presented with a plaque by the local historical society. The streets are wide and have sidewalks and lots of mature trees. The boundaries of the neighborhood are Lockwood Boulevard on the north, West Lockwood Road on the south, the city of Webster Grove on the east, and Kirkwood on the west.

The Plaza at Sunset Hills offers residents of Glendale a place within an easy drive where they can do some shopping. The shops include Home Depot, Borders Books, PETsMART, Bed Bath & Beyond, Old Navy and Marshalls. The Shoppes at Sunset Hills across the street include Toys R Us and World Market. Just a mile away is Crestwood Plaza, a major mall anchored by Dillard’s. For grocery shopping, there is a Shop n Save on Manchester Road in Kirkwood, which is a short drive from Glendale.

Algonquin Country Club is a private equity golf club. It is a favorite with business and civic leaders and has been for over 100 years. The club began as a 9 hole course and expanded to 18 holes in 1913. It is constantly updating and is in no way old fashioned. The course is challenging for golfers of every skill level and the clubhouse is renowned for the quality of the dining offered.
