Charleston Preservation Neighborhood

Located just north of the College of Southern Nevada’s Charleston campus, the Charleston Preservation neighborhood is one of the more desirable neighborhoods within the urban heart of Las Vegas. The neighborhood is chock full of amenities but also is a very walkable area that is child-friendly.

The main boundaries of Charleston Preservation are Interstate 95 to the north and Jones Boulevard to the east. The southern boundary extends along Charleston Boulevard westward from Jones Boulevard until Torrey Pines Drive, where it goes north until reaching Alta Drive and continuing west to Rainbow Boulevard. It is part of the 89107 ZIP code.

The majority of the homes in Charleston Preservation were built in the 1970s through the 1990s, with a median house value in 2010 of just under $200,000. The neighborhood is primarily upper-middle class, with many people working in executive-level jobs.

A popular recreation spot for residents of Charleston Preservation is the Charleston Heights Neighborhood Preservation Park, which is located on Hyde Boulevard and Torrey Pines Drive. This five-acre complex has a large playground area along with basketball courts and a picnic area with large expanses of open space.

There are several schools in the Charleston Preservation area. O.K. Adcock Elementary School handles students from kindergarten through fifth grade and is located on the corner of Hyde Avenue and Newcomer Street. Its namesake was a pioneering business owner and a former school board president. Older students attended Garside Junior High just south of O.K. Adcock – the school also has a pool that is open for public use during summer months.

Food and shopping options are plentiful in Charleston Preservation. A Food 4 Less grocery store is within the neighborhood along with many smaller mini-marts. There are several restaurants in the neighborhood which have become staples for longtime residents. One of the most popular is Verrazano Pizza, which is located on Rainbow Boulevard near Whitesands Avenue and is said by some to have the best Brooklyn-style pizza in Las Vegas.
