Clear All FiltersBurlington County, New Jersey
Stroll along cobblestone roads, surrounded by architecture over 300 years old, and discover New Jersey in its infancy. The City of Burlington Historic District contains more than 40 historic locations along the Delaware River dating back to the founding of the city in the mid 1600s. Burlington served as the county seat for Burlington County in its early years, but that all changed in 1796 when the county seat was moved to Mount Holly.
Burlington County is located in the Delaware Valley, east of the Delaware River. It is just to the west of Ocean and Monmouth Counties, known as the Shore Region and home to a beautiful stretch of beaches along the Atlantic Ocean. Burlington and the other counties in the Delaware River Region contain numerous historic sites and attractions dating back to the American Revolution.
The Mount Holly Township was formed in 1688 as Northampton. It was one of New Jersey’s original townships, and it remained Northampton for 243 years. In 1931 the township was renamed to Mount Holly. An important location during the American Revolution, Mount Holly is a beautiful area with a long, rich history. The County Courthouse was constructed in 1796. The County Prison, built in 1810, is now a museum.
The largest community in Burlington County is Evesham Township. Settled in 1672 by Quakers, Evesham was one of the thirteen Burlington County townships formed in 1692. A lovely historic town, Evesham contains the Indian Spring Country Club, home to an 18-hole public golf course and a practice area.
Residents enjoy festivals and events such as the Riverside Summer Concert series, shopping at antiques stores on High Street, boating, strolling along the riverfront promenade, canoeing the Rancocas Creek Canoe Trail, and visiting one of several Burlington County parks. Whether it’s fishing at Amico Island Park; hiking and birdwatching at Boundary Creek Natural Resource Area; enjoying the dog park, community gardens, and picnic areas at Pennington Park; or marveling at the county’s crown jewel Historic Smithville Park, renting a Burlington County apartment will surround you with history and beauty in one of New Jersey’s most convenient locations.
