Dayton, NJ Apartments for Rent
Located about 20 miles northeast of Trenton and 26 miles northeast of Levittown, Dayton is a community within South Brunswick Township. The area predates South Brunswick Township, which was incorporated in 1798. Long before that, Dayton was known as The Cross Roads due to its location; it was a popular resting place for travelers between Englishtown and Princeton. Catering to travelers, taverns began to appear in the area. The name wasn’t changed to Dayton until 1866.
South Brunswick Township is a beautiful location and was named one of the “Best Places to Live” in 2011 by CNNMoney.com. Dayton is a charming community with tree-lined streets, wide sidewalks, and historical architecture. The oldest building in Dayton is the former Whitlock Tavern, which was built in the 1730s. Today, it is a popular Italian restaurant.
Today, situated less than nine miles from Princeton University and less than an hour southwest of New York City, Dayton is still a great location for commuters. But for those who don’t want to work outside of the area, Dayton is home to several businesses, including Playmobil. The surrounding town of South Brunswick features a great park system, which includes 23 developed parks, 8 tracts with 1,168 open-space areas, and the Rocky Top Dog Park.
