North Albany – Shaker Park Neighborhood

North Albany – Shaker Park is a neighborhood in northern Albany, about two miles from the heart of the downtown area. This community is located north of Interstate 90, east of U.S. Highway 9 and south of Lawn Avenue. Railroad tracks and Interstate 787 run roughly parallel past the neighborhood on the east. The zip code for this Albany County community is 12204.

The North Albany – Shaker Park neighborhood has an Irish past and is considered a tightly-knit community. This primarily residential neighborhood consists mostly of single-family homes and duplexes. A YMCA has recently been constructed within neighborhood bounds, along North Pearl Street.

A variety of parks can be found within a short drive of the neighborhood, including Tivoli Park to the west. The downtown area includes Lincoln Park and Washington Park, both situated in the Capital Region. Washington Park is the host of a variety of concerts and events, including an annual holiday lights display. Situated on 84 acres, the park is a natural oasis in the middle of the city and offers many amenities, including a stocked pond, lake house amphitheater, tennis courts, bike paths, and children’s play area.

Residents of Shaker Park enjoy easy access to major area roadways, but this isn’t the neighborhood’s only benefit. North Pearl Street offers a direct route into downtown Albany, which is just over five minutes away. Amenities and attractions in the downtown area include the Albany Medical Center, the state capitol and the New York State Museum. Higher education options near downtown Albany include The College of St. Rose, SUNY Albany Downtown Campus and The Sage Colleges – Albany Campus.
