Pastures is a historic neighborhood near central Albany, New York, just south of the downtown business district, west of the waterfront and east of the state capitol. This community is bounded by Madison Avenue on the north, South Ferry Street on the south, South Pearl Street on the west and Interstate 787/South Mall Arterial on the east. The Mansion Area neighborhood is adjacent to the west, and South End is adjacent to the south. Pastures is in the 12202 zip code area, within Albany County.
The Pastures neighborhood is a unique mix of historic homes, shops, courtyards and other amenities, including tennis courts. The beautiful homes here are occupied by both owners and renters, and residents enjoy easy access to the downtown area and a variety of area amenities.
Within walking distance west of the Pastures neighborhood is a popular city park. Lincoln Park offers a variety of amenities, including trails, tennis courts and plenty of open space for games and picnicking. Washington Park, another frequented city park, can be found several blocks west along Madison Avenue. This park features a lake, tennis and basketball courts, playground and trails. It is also a popular outdoor venue for concerts and events, including an annual lights festival during the holiday season.
A variety of cultural attractions can be found within walking distance north of Pastures, in downtown Albany. In addition to the state capitol, downtown Albany also features the Empire State Plaza, Albany Institute of History & Art, Palace Theatre and New York State Museum. Mansion Area, which borders Pastures on the west, is also home to some of the city’s busiest nightlife and most popular restaurants, all easily within walking distance.
For health care and higher education, residents of Pastures are within a few miles east of some of the city’s most prominent medical facilities, colleges and universities.
