Delaware-West Ferry Neighborhood

The Delaware-West Ferry neighborhood of Buffalo, New York, is a large subdivision located between Main Street and Richmond Avenue. Lafayette Avenue forms the northern boundary and West Utica Street is to the south. West Ferry Street passes across the middle of the neighborhood and Delaware Avenue runs north and south. With all these main thoroughfares in proximity, residents do not have any problem accessing other parts of the city for work or shopping.

Brylin Hospital and the Millard Fillmore Gates Circle Hospital are located right in this neighborhood. With medical centers so nearby, residents don’t have to travel out of their own community to visit doctors or gain access to emergency health care. The Women Children’s Hospital of Buffalo is only a few streets away at the southern end of the neighborhood.

Restaurants and take-out venues can be found at the northern part of Elmwood Avenue, which runs along the western side of Delaware-West Ferry. There is also another collection of such venues at the southeast corner of the neighborhood on Main Street.

Canisius College is only a short distance away for those students attending post-secondary classes. This college also has sports teams that play regular games and residents of the neighborhood attend quite often.

Recreation and outdoor activities are available at Martin Luther King Park, which is only a few streets away. This 56-acre park contains over 160 species of trees, a Victorian Rose Garden and the City Greenhouse. There is a small pool here as well where children love to have fun in the water.

Of course, Delaware Park is the favorite of residents of Delaware- West Ferry as it is with all residents of Buffalo. This park is not far away and offers golfing and fishing opportunities as well as a host of opportunities for getting exercise outdoors at any time of the year.
