Kaisertown Neighborhood

Kaisertown is a neighborhood located on the eastern side of the city of Buffalo, New York. Neighborhoods that border it include East Side, which has portions that meet it on its north, northwest, and western sections. South Buffalo borders it on the south and southwest. The community is closed in by the Buffalo River to the south and Thruway 90 to the northwest.

One of the more important places to the community is St. Casimir’s Catholic Church. The church has been considered the heart of the neighborhood since its creation in 1928. There are two parks in the Kaisertown area: Houghton Park and Hillery Park. Houghton Park Is famed as being one of the best in Buffalo.

The neighborhood has many schooling choices. Public schools include John F. Kennedy Sr. High School and John F. Kennedy Middle School. Five elementary schools are within two miles of Kaisertown: PS 69 Houghton Academy, Southside Elementary, PS 27 Hillery Park, Lorraine, and Woodrow Wilson. As with most Buffalo locales, private schools are also plentiful in the area.

Culturally, Kaisertown offers the Buffalo Fire Historical Society and the Iron Island Preservation Society Museums. Also not far away is the Buffalo Museum of Science. East Clinton Branch Library also serves the area.

Area shopping is done mainly at mom-and-pop stores, but there are shopping complexes within driving distance, including Thruway Mall at Tops and Steppin Main Place Mall. Residents take care of medical issues at nearby Mercy Hospital.
