Monroe County, New York

In northwestern New York State along Lake Ontario just south of the Canadian border, Monroe County’s villages, towns, and cities fan out from the lake and its county seat of Rochester. It’s a beautiful county with vivid green in summer and a snowy wonderland in winter, waterfalls, rivers and canals and, of course, Lake Ontario. Rent an apartment in Monroe County and enjoy a multitude of outdoor activities, from swimming, boating, and fishing in the summer to skiing, sledding, and snowboarding in winter.

Monroe County hosts several festivals, including the Monroe County Fair held in July. The fair contains livestock, competitions, rides, live entertainment, and plenty of food and vendors. The Lilac Festival, held annually in May in Highland Park, spans 10 days and features over 500 varieties of lilacs. The festival includes live entertainment, a parade, vendors, and activities. Other festivals include the Corn Hill Arts Festival and the Rochester International Jazz Festival.

In addition to Rochester, Monroe County includes nearly 30 towns and villages, including Ogden, Henrietta, East Rochester, Brighton, and Scottsville. The county is home to several colleges and universities, including SUNY Brockport and the University of Rochester. The University of Rochester contains the Eastman School of Music, named one of the best music schools in the US.

Parks in Monroe County include Black Creek Park, a 1,500-acre park popular for hiking, picnicking, and horseback riding and during the winter months for cross-country skiing, sledding, and snowshoeing. The Genesee Valley Park is located along the Genesee River. The Erie Canal also runs through the park. The park contains two public golf courses.
